Strike: FG, ASUU to reconvene on Monday

 The conciliatory meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU summoned to end the ongoing strike by the union has adjourned to reconvene by next week Monday.   Addressing newsmen at the end of the eight hours meeting in Abuja, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige said that the meeting has reached some level of understanding in four areas of ASUU’s demands.   He however, explained that the only area that the meeting was yet to have an understanding was the university revitalization fund which necessarily needs the input of the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning before concrete decision would be taken. ASUU: ASUU SAYS FG YET TO MEET ANY DEMAND ‘FULLY’ AS MINISTER PROMISES RESOLUTION

  Nigeria’s minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, has promised Nigerians that the ongoing one-week-old industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will end before the one month declared by the union.     However, an adamant ASUU has said the strike will continue as the government has failed to fully meet any of his demands. Mr Ngige, who spoke on Tuesday at the resumed negotiation between the union and the representatives of the government, said the government was surprised by the lecturers’ decision to embark on strike despite the assurances by the government and the intervention of ‘stakeholders’ including the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC). The Joint Admission Matriculation Board has published the full list of approved CBT Registration and Testing Centers Nationwide for the upcoming 2022 UTME and Direct Entry Examinations.   The management of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has accredited 769 centres to carry out registration of candidates for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The brief accompanying the approval reads: List of accredited centres for 2022 UTME/Direct registration. The breakdown showed Lagos tops the list with 71 centres, Ogun 45, Kano 44, Oyo 35, Kaduna 29, Delta 29, Ondo 18, Osun 26, and Plateau 23. Others are Rivers 27, Enugu 17, Abuja 27, Imo 17, Katsina 16, Kwara 24, Nasarawa 30, Abia 15, Akwa Ibom 15, Anambra 26, Bauchi 12, Borno 11, Edo 17, Ekiti and Zamfara had 7 each.
