ASUU Lists Conditions To End Strike

  Dele Ashiru, chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter has said the ongoing strike will not be called off unless the federal government meets two key demands of the union.Ashiru disclosed to BusinessDay on Friday, that except the federal government is willing to implement the renegotiated 2009 agreement and pull out of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and begin to use the University Transparency, Accountability Solution (UTAS) payment platform the lecturers will not back down from the strike. “To end the strike, the federal government should implement the renegotiated 2009 agreement and pull out of the IPPIS with immediate effect and use UTAS as a payment platform for lecturers,” Ashiru said The university don warned that the federal government should desist from misinforming Nigerians by stating that UTAS could not pass the integrity test. ASUU: Indefinite Strike Looms, ASUU Expresses Disappointment On FG

 The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, has stated that nothing progressive has emerged to see an end to the warning strike embarked upon by the body. The ASUU’s strike which is in its fourth week has been hinged on the union’s demands on the revitalization of public universities, earned academic allowances, renegotiation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement, and inconsistencies in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system. Prof. Osodeke, who was a guest on Channels Television’s show, Sunrise Daily, expressed his disappointment at the state of affairs and the government’s inability to fulfill the promises it made two years ago. “I can assure you nothing tangible has happened, nothing visible; nothing you can say has been done,” the ASUU president said during the breakfast show. MATRICULATION: Covenant University Matriculates 1,930 Students

  Covenant University, Ota, has matriculated 1,930 students for the 2021/2022 academic session. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, disclosed this while addressing the students at the matriculation in Ota, Ogun, on Friday. Adebayo, in his speech, said that being bonafide students of Covenant University, the students were guaranteed the right and privilege of studentship, having subscribed to the oath of allegiance of the University. He said that the 1,930 students comprised 1,807 undergraduate students and 123 postgraduate students. The Vice-Chancellor also noted that the university had produced over 20,000 graduates and they were all excelling in their various professions.
