ASUU Rescinds Decision To Brief Media On Strike

  The leadership of the Academic Staff union of universities, ASUU has rescinds its decision to brief the media this week on possible suspension of strike.ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke told ait.live exclusively via telephone, that they are also disappointed over the development. Professor Osodeke said until government gives the green light on adopting the University Transperancy and Accountability Solution, UTAS over IPPIS, it will remain on strike for as long as possible. ASUU President particularly pointed accusing fingers at the National Information Technology Development agency, NITDA a parastatal under the ministry of communications and digital economy, for deliberately frustrating the process. ASUU You Lack The Power To Suspend Strike, AAU ASUU Tells Edo Govt

  The Edo State Government has suspended all union activities in state institutions of higher learning following protest by students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, over the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The AAU chapter of ASUU has, however, described the state government's action as illegal. The decision to suspend the activities of the unions, which was taken at the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, is to take immediate effect. According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, the affected unions include ASUU, Non Academic Staff of Universities, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Non Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and all allied unions operating in all state-owned tertiary institutions. Edo govt orders school resumption, suspends ASUU, SSANU, others, in tertiary institutions

  The Edo state government on Wednesday, June 8, during its Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting issued a directive to all state-owned tertiary institutions to resume academic activities and suspend all industrial actions embarked on. According to the Special Adviser on Media Projects to the Edo State Governor, Crusoe Osagie, all cadre of staff are expected to resume academic and non-academic activities immediately. Students across all state-owned tertiary institutions have also been directed to resume immediately. ASUU Strike: We have made progress with the FG, strike may end soon - ASUU president

 The president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, has disclosed that the warning strike embarked upon by the union since February 14, would soon come to an end. He made this known while speaking on the Human Rights Radio, producers of the popular national radio/TV programme, Brekete Family Show. According to him, the minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige contributed to making the strike last this long as he took over and politicised the strike. But now that the minister of education is handling it, both parties are making progress. I hope it continues this way and within a short time, God helping, and if there are no third parties, we believe that this thing will be resolved very soon.” He added. FG RENEGOTIATION COMMITTEE MEETING SITTING ENDS TODAY

  The university unions’ and Federal Government renegotiation committee sitting will end today.   The PUNCH reported that the Federal Government on March 7, 2022, inaugurated a seven-person committee tasked with the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the other three unions including, The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and The National Association of Academic Technologists.   The committee which was chaired by Pro-Chancellor, Alex Ekweme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Emeritus Professor Nimi Briggs was given three months to conclude the renegotiation with ASUU and other unions.   According to ASUU and SSANU national presidents, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke and Mr Mohammed Ibrahim respectively, the Briggs committee has been meeting with the various unions since May 2022 to renegotiate their agreem...

ASUU RAISES HOPE OF CALLING OFF STRIKE

  Hope rises for public university students in Nigeria as Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) provides hints it might call off its 110 days long strike.   ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, told AIT’s Abulu Osemuaghu exclusively via the telephone that it will brief the media this week.     The ASUU President said as parents, he and other lecturers feel the pain of the students and want to see them back in classes as soon as possible.   Osodeke however accused Federal Government of foot-dragging on its various demands especially the adoption of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, (UTAS) which it said has passed 90% test.     ASUU admitted that the meeting with the Federal government’s 2009 Agreements renegotiation team led by Professor Nimi Briggs has so far been fruitful.   There have been protests by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to scuttle political parties primaries if the schools are...

WAEC prevents 701 Kaduna students from writing examination

 No fewer than 701 students in Kaduna State were prevented from sitting for the ongoing 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, after paying WAEC fees to the tune of N12.61million. It was gathered that WAEC had notified some of the schools about the glitch on April 1, 2022, giving them time to resolve the issue. However, WAEC Zonal Coordinator for North West, Mr. Audu Paiku reportedly refused to reopen the portal for the affected schools to upload the CASS. The Kaduna State Ministry of Education was said to have also written a letter to WAEC National Office through WAEC Zonal office in Kaduna, on April 12th, 2022, requesting WAEC to reopen its portal to allow the 701 students to upload their CASS, but the examination body refused.
