FG to assist admission into Nigerian universities for Nigerian students affected by Russia-Ukraine war

 The Federal government has disclosed that it is ready to aid Nigerian students who fled from Ukraine and Russia due to the ongoing war between both countries, in gaining admission into universities in Nigeria. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement released yesterday July 4, 2022, instructed the affected students interested in continuing their education in a Nigerian university to visit the website of the ministry at  https://foreignaffairs.gov.ng/  for assistance. This is despite the fact that academic activities in public universities in the country have been crippled for over four months following the declaration of indefinite industrial action by university workers.

NECO SSCE 2022: There will be no exam on Sallah day, council clarifies

  The National Examinations Council (NECO) wishes to state that it has not scheduled any examination for Saturday 9th July, 2022. This is contrary to insinuations in some quarters that the Council has scheduled examination for 9th July, 2022, which is Sallah Day (Eid- Adha). The council made this known via is twitter handle. This followed calls from Islamic group, MURIC for NECO to move exams from Sallah Day. Lecturers give updates on ASUU Strike - "Strike Can End Tomorrow"

  ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, stated this while speaking on Channels Television's Politics Yesterday on Monday night. Osodeke claimed an agreement had been reached with the government, but it has not been signed. According to him, ASUU's insistence on using their own generated payment platform, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS), is a key demand. "As far as ASUU is concerned, the strike can end tomorrow. "We have finished the negotiation. If the government calls us now to come and sign the agreement, we will be there tomorrow. "Let the government tell us they have finished testing the UTAS and we have accepted it, then we will call off the strike. "When will they sign the agreement? When will they accept UTAS? Those are the two questions we should ask the Nigerian government," Osodeke said.

  Prof. Kabiru Bala, Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, said the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike dampens his spirit. The Don spoke on Monday at a meeting organised by the Kano Zone of ASUU. Bala noted that the industrial action has lasted 140 days, affecting the economy of host communities. He urged the government, ASUU and stakeholders to consider the effect of the strike on the citizens. Bala said Ahmadu Bello University had more than 30,000 students who spent at least N300 each on food. "We also have more than 13,000 employees each of whom has an average of three to five dependents who feed on a daily basis. "The strike also has far-reaching implications on security."
