ABSU Rusticates 500 Level Law Student, Suspends Staff For Falsification Of Degree Result

  The management of Abia State University, Uturu, has rusticated a 500 level Law student, Onwuka Chimezie Princewill for one academic session for falsification of his academic transcript. Onwuka was allegedly claimed to have graduated from the University when he still has outstanding courses to pass. Also, a staff of University’s Institute for Computer Studies, ICS, Bestman Ugorji has been handed six months suspension with half salary, for complicity in the fake result displayed by the student in the social media.   In addition, the University management has directed that Ugorji be posted out of the institution on resumption from his suspension. 2022 UTME: Over 500,000 Candidates Have So Far Registered, Says JAMB

  OVER 500,000 tertiary institutions admission seekers have so far registered to sit for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has said.The board which disclosed this, Thursday, through its registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, said its target was to register a total of 1.5 million candidates before its deadline fixed for March 26, 2022.Oloyede, who spoke while monitoring the registration exercise in Bwari, Abuja, said the board also plans to register at least 50,000 candidates per day.Açcording to him, it has succeeded in registering about 70,000 two days ago, adding that the exercise has been mostly successful and 99 per cent of the problems encountered by candidates were self-inflicted because they played into the hands of fraudsters. Strike: ASUU Agrees To Report Government Proposals To Members, May Resume Soon

  After almost eight hours of an intensive closed-door meeting on Tuesday, both the Nigerian government team and the leadership of the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) emerged at about 11 p.m. with an indication of possible resolution of the areas of conflict between the two parties. The president of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke, declined elaborate comment on their conclusions but said his team would report to the members on the government’s proposals and later revert to the government. But the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, said both parties agreed on a lot of things, and that ASUU was expected to “talk to its members, show them the proposal that has been offered by the government so that they can call off the strike”.   Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and revitalisation fund for universities were the two items on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting. 2022 UTME: JAMB RESCHEDULES MOCK EXAM TO APRIL 9

  The board also noted that the date for the exercise had been affected also by the shift in date for the registration of the UTME and Direct Entry (DE), which was earlier scheduled for Feb.12, but later commenced on Feb.19.     It, however, urged all candidates who registered and would want to sit for the mock exercise to note the change of date and be prepared. The 2022 registration commenced on Saturday, February 19, and would end on March 26. The UTME however has been scheduled by JAMB to hold from May 6 to May 16.   Students from different tertiary institutions under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students on Monday locked out federal and state workers in Plateau State. The angry students were protesting the ongoing nationwide strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The students had converged in front of the National Library located along the ever-busy Yakubu Gowon Way in Jos around 8:am and later moved to the federal secretariat located within Tudun Wada community and locked the gate, preventing the workers from going in while those already inside were trapped in their offices. Nigerian Students Protest Over ASUU Strike

The students led by the national president, Sunday Asefon, gathered on Monday morning at Unity Fountain in Abuja, displaying various placards and chanting songs of solidarity. The protest was also held in other states including, Kofar Nasarawa, Kano State; Jos, Plateau State; Minna, Niger State; Jalingo, Taraba State; Ekiti State; Oyo State, among others. The NANS President addressing journalists in Abuja said the protesters will match from the Unity Fountain to the Federal Secretariat before proceeding to the National Assembly.
