JSS2 student dies after being flogged by his teacher over homework

A 12-year-old JSS 2 student of Simple Faith Schools, Agbara, Lagos State, named, Emmanuel Amidu, has been confirmed dead after he was allegedly flogged by one of his teachers simply identified as Steven.


 


According to the victim’s father, Akinola Amidu, the deceased student and some of his classmates were flogged by their Mathematics teacher for not completing their assignment on Thursday, May 12, 2022. He said his son started vomiting shortly after the beating and was rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Surulere, where he gave up the ghost on Friday, May 13, 2022.


 


The aggrieved father who accused the school of trying to cover up the incident and protecting the teacher said when his son was pronounced dead, the school management quickly rushed to report the case at Morogbo Police Station at Agbara saying he died from vomiting.


 


Mr. Akinola is demanding the arrest and prosecution of the teacher, as he urged the state government and the police to give the family justice.

ABSU votes for extension of ASUU strike by another one month

  The academic staff union of universities ASUU, Abia state University ABSU has vowed to continue strike action in case their demands are no met by the FG We gathered this at the union branch in a terse statement signed by the chairperson of the branch Nkendirim and secretary udom. The branch suggests that the strike should be rolled over if FG hasn't met to their demands by next week. This is ahead of the upcoming NEC meeting to be held next week .

  After serious deliberations that dragged into the early hours of Monday, the National Executive Council, NEC, of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has voted to embark on one-month warning strike to press home its demands from the government.   A source at the meeting held in Lagos told Vanguard in confidence that the strike is to allow the Federal Government do the needful failure to which the union would go on an indefinite strike.       “We just want to give the government a long rope hoping that it would see the need to avoid a total paralysis of academic activities in the nation’s universities. ASUU RAISES HOPE OF CALLING OFF STRIKE
